Herbert R. Briss, 92, died peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, February 11, 2018, eight days shy of his 93rd birthday. Herb was the loving husband of 68 years to Ramona “Mona” Briss and a wicked awesome dad to son Jeff and his partner Dorothy of San Francisco and daughter Judy and her husband Tom of Bellingham. Herb is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Goldman of Florida and was the brother of the late Norman Briss.
Herb and Mona established their home in Framingham where they lived for over 50 years before moving to Westborough in 2012.
Herb was a WWII Navy Veteran and was part of the Navy’s “Operation Highjump” expedition to the South Pole with Admiral Bird in 1946-1947 in preparation for the U.S. Military to fight the Soviet Union in polar conditions.
Herb’s working career spanned American Machine and Foundry, Raytheon and Polaroid where he spent that majority of his career and retired from in the early 1990’s. He went on to also work at Behring Diagnostics and Celenese before retiring again in his 70’s.
Herb loved to travel with Mona and went to South Africa, Mexico, China, Hong Kong and various parts of the U.S. Herb was an average (ok maybe below average) golfer who love playing golf on Saturday mornings at Millwood Golf Course in Framingham with his friends and daughter. He had a standing Thursday night pinochle group for many years and also loved to entertain at Chez Briss by the pool and cooking wings and steaks on the grill.
Herb had a great sense of humor and was a great friend to many and will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers the family would request a donation in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire @ https://www.alz.org/manh/
