Mary Silverstein, of Concord, passed away October 8.
She was 75 and had been suffering from dementia. Her last days were spent comfortably surrounded by family, with the (recorded) sound of the ocean in her ears.
Mary was born to Celia and Abner Levy in Freeport New York. She attended Baldwin High School, earned an undergraduate degree from Adelphi University and a Master’s in Education from Tufts University. She taught students with special needs in Massachusetts public elementary schools, most recently in Medford and Concord.
Always quick to laugh, Mary’s greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family. She relished a good game of Scrabble where her vocabulary was tough to beat. She is survived by her brother Mark Levy, sons David and Sam Silverstein, their wives Lori Silverstein and Lisa Tabb, her grandchildren Aaron, Abbie, Ryan and Meleah, and her beloved dog Carma.
A memorial service will be held at Wilson Chapel, 234 Herrick Road, Newton at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 11. Friends are invited to celebrate her life following the service at her son David’s home.
The last years of Mary’s life were made comfortable thanks to the extraordinary patience and care provided by the Deaconess Abundant Life Newbury Court facillity in Concord, and contributions in her memory can be made to the New England Deaconess Association Benevolent Fund and sent to 80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA 01742.
