Miriam “Mimi” Uretzky

On the morning of June 19, 2019, Miriam “Mimi” (Schildkraut) Uretzky, of Charlestown, Massachusetts, formerly of Dix Hills, New York, died surrounded by her family.

Mimi was born in New York in October, 1946. After college and graduate school, she taught in the New York City public schools before leaving teaching to raise her two children. After her children were in college, she found a second career in the mortgage loan industry, eventually retiring early to help take care of her three grandchildren.

Mimi loved the performing arts, and was happiest when she was performing on stage, singing for an audience, or seeing a show. In recent years, nothing gave her more joy than the time she spent with her grandchildren, helping to raise all three with an energy, warmth, and compassion that will follow them for the rest of their lives.

She made friends wherever she went, with a warm, engaging spirit. Settling in recent years in Charlestown, she quickly found a community of people of all ages that she bonded with as a friendly neighbor, an auntie, a close friend, or a surrogate mom or grandmother.

Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Helene. She is survived by her two children, Erin and Brian; their spouses Evan and Karen; her grandchildren Nathan, Caleb, and Ryan; and her siblings Bob and Diane Schildkraut, Billie Schildkraut, and Leah and Moti Mahfouda. She also leaves behind her loving nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Congregation Or Atid, 97 Concord Road, Wayland, MA, on Sunday, June 23rd at 1:00pm, followed by a short graveside service at Beit Olam East Cemetery, 42 Concord Rd., Wayland.
