Naomi Kaplan, 96, died peacefully on September 17, in Weymouth, MA. Naomi was the oldest child of Morris and Anna Kaplan of Cambridge, MA. She was predeceased by her brother Gilbert Alfred Kaplan, of Jamaica Plain and Delray Florida, and is survived by her youngest brother, Sumner Herbert Kaplan of Brookline, MA, Coconut Creek, FL, and Chicago, IL. Naomi graduated from Boston University with a master’s degree in education.
Although Naomi did not have children of her own, she was like another loving mother to her family, including her nephew Robert Kaplan, niece Betsy Kaplan Parker and late niece Miriam Kaplan, her cousins, including Mimi Parvey, Jon Wolk, Andrew Kline, Michelle Wheeler, Mathew Bernstein, Nick Wolk and the late William Kline, and grand-nephews Christopher Parker, Ryan Parker, and Zachary Parker. Her devotion to her family was a defining feature of her life, as she inspired all to live up to their potential. She is also fondly remembered by innumerable Newton High School students, where she retired after serving for many years as a Guidance Counselor. Naomi was passionate about her family and her friends. Naomi was also passionate about her hobbies, including travel, music, gardening, and her Boston Red Sox.
Graveside service at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham St., Sharon, MA on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 10:45 am. Following services, memorial reception will be held at the home of William and Mimi Parvey. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Jewish National Fund, 77 Franklin St., #514l, Boston, MA 02110, or the National Audubon Society, 225 Varick St., New York, NY 10014.
